Introducing Synthetic Biology to Students

Synthetic Biology, which deals with the design and construction of new biological parts, devices and systems, has the potential to give rise to novel products that have hitherto been considered to be beyond the realm of biology. It is essential to introduce undergraduate biology students to Synthetic Biology, so as to expose and prepare them for cutting edge research and development in this exciting field of scientific enquiry.

Many colleges and universities run biotechnology courses, which can be repurposed or redesigned to include Synthetic Biology theory and laboratory courses. The large number of undergraduate departments teaching basic biology subjects (life sciences, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology and botany) can also be strengthened, equipped and funded to teach Synthetic Biology concepts and to carry out research.

This website provides information about resources generated and initiatives taken to skill students and train teachers in Synthetic Biology.
