A three-day workshop was held at Somaiya Institute for Research and Consultancy, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai to equip students with synthetic biology laboratory skills. Twenty students from different colleges across India participated in the workshop.
Laboratory space for the workshop was provided by Somaiya Vidyavihar University. Consumables and reagents for the workshop were provided by Genei Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru.
Students at the K. C. Matunga Municipal School, Matunga Central, Mumbai were introduced to basic concepts of recombinant DNA technology and molecular biology. Approximately 150 students from Grades 9 and 10 attended the lectures, which were delivered in Hindi and Tamil.

A two-day workshop was organised on modeling of biological systems to introduce participants to the theory and techniques of mathematical modelling of biosystems. Prof. K. V. Venkatesh (Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay). The workshop was meant for students who are interested in using modelling as a tool for understanding and predicting behaviour of living cells. The workshop comprised of lectures and demonstrations on static and dynamic modeling of metabolism and cell signalling pathways.
Thirty three undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as research scholars from different colleges participated in the workshop.

A hands-on workshop was held at DBT-ICT Centre for Energy Biosciences, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai to train and introduce college teachers to concepts of Synthetic Biology using experiments that build upon concepts that are included in the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum. The workshop aimed to empower college teachers with methods of active learning and discussion-based teaching. The hands-on nature of the workshop will enable participants to conduct Synthetic Biology experiments in their respective colleges.
